My Five Favorite Patio Trends for the Summer

My Five Favorite Patio Trends for the Summer

Patios and backyard space can be such an important part of a home, especially in the summer months. You can use your patio for entertaining, dining, or just lounging out with a good book. With all of the rain we’ve had here in Boston (20 out of 30 days in April!), I cannot wait to get outside and get my space set up for the summer. There are so many great patio trends for 2019, but check out my five favorite. Which would you incorporate into your space?

Mixing It Up

If your current space seems bland and outdated, you may be able to just combine pieces you already have with a few new items. I personally like mixing materials and bringing together both outdoor and indoor furniture.

When meshing different materials together, think soft, classic summer materials like wicker and teak paired with modern accent twists made from iron or aluminum.

You can also mix it up by combining your outdoor and indoor furniture. If your living space opens up into your patio, you can effortlessly bring together both areas by following the same color palettes:

I also really like using patio space as a breakfast nook or bar area:

Lighting Throughout Your Space

With so many energy efficient, LED lighting options available, outdoor lighting for your patio space is a must and a no-brainer! Lights add a combination of a playful and romantic touch to any outdoor space, and make it a fun environment to hang out around! I really like these bare, minimalist overhead bulbs:

Fireplaces and Firepits

Having an area dedicated to a fire in your yard is not only fun, but also is great for entertaining. Snack on yummy s’mores while catching up with your friends all throughout the summer months.

Minimalism

It’s been said count less times, but less is truly more. Adding a few well-made, curated pieces together can make even the smallest space seem endless!

Black and White

While we usually think bright hues in the summer, don’t count out a simple black and white design for an effortless, chic look. TIP: Add some small florals for a pop of color.
